El Burgo to Mansilla, day 20
The warnings about a monotonous stretch across more of the Meseta were misplaced. The previous evening I had a pilgrims dinner with A-M which was excellent unlike the accommodation in the same place, only just acceptable. I think the options are extremely limited in El Burgo, and the owners were charming. Breakfast too was good with decent café con leche, and kept me going until an early lunch at Reliegos.
Breaking up the endless cereal crop landscape were the occasional cool oasis like this one which the cows seemed to like.
Frogs croaked in the streams, full of water after more overnight rain, but remained invisible.
I have yet to explore Mansilla de las Mulas. Right now I’m enjoying a decent room with a working shower and my own small washing line, requiring a certain amount of courage to use because you have to hang out of the window to reach it. Amazingly there are pegs too.
I should probably explore the local Museo Etnográfico which opens at 5. The charming owner of the hostel was quite insistent that it’s worth a visit. He also graciously came to find me in a nearby café to tell me my bag had arrived. I had a moment of panic when it wasn’t waiting for me, in fact I had reached the day’s end point far earlier than I’d realised.
