2022 Monday — Honoring the Fallen

This is how Cayucos behaves on Memorial Day: A meaningful Lost at Sea ceremony on the pier, the only one of its kind in California. The tolling of the bell, the symbolism of the tossing of the wreath from the end of the pier, and the Missing Man flight formation is explained to the audience before music, some words, and a march to the end of the pier for the blessing of the wreath. The service pays tribute to military, to fishermen, and to civilians who lost their lives in the ocean and never returned.

The Rotary Club supplied the flags at the Cayucos-Morro Bay Cemetery, which is just across Highway #1 from the Pacific Ocean.

It’s a solemn day in America. I don't know anyone who does not hate war. This is not a day that celebrates war; it is a day that honors the fallen.This day is a vivid reminder that America is free because so many have been brave.

God has blessed America. This country’s founding fathers and early documents recognize God's blessing.
