The culprit

The robins have been chirping their alarm calls for several days, and we knew there are owls around. Yesterday, G was sitting on the porch and saw one land in a tree. He called me, but I couldn't see it, and then just as I spotted it, it took off and we had a clear view of it flying into another section of the forest. Today he was out watering some trees and saw an owl on a branch close to the driveway. He rushed in and asked if the telephoto lens was handy. I quickly got the camera and changed the lens and went out to see it. Magnificent! It looked at us for quite a few minutes but when I tried to get closer, it flew off to another tree where we could barely see it. The robins started buzzing it and it flew off. Had to use auto settings to get the photo. Might keep the telephoto on for a few days for a change.
We hear the owls hooting often but rarely see one, so this was a real treat!
The young ravens are noisy these days too, cawing constantly at certain times of the day to be fed. I love hearing the sound of their wings when they fly over us. Kalyn and I imitate the sounds of the ravens and imagine that they call back to us. I wonder if I'd get fed if I could imitate a young one! Ha!
