Sulphur crested cockatoos are among Australia's largest parrots and certainly among our most intelligent. It is amazing to see what they can teach themselves to do. There was a pair of them perched nonchalantly upon footpath benches and sandwich board signs outside a fast food shop in Katoomba Street this afternoon. 

They seemed quite happy for me to get within about 40 cms of each of them to take pictures ... provided (presumably) I came good with something to eat. When nothing was ultimately forthcoming, I do declare that the attitude became distinctly frosty.
