The Devonshire Dome

A day investigating Buxton, predominately Georgian architecture set in parkland. Very attractive and easy to walk around.
I have changed the image as we were allowed into this huge building,
It started life as an 18th century stable block to accommodate the horses of visitors to this spa town.
In 1881 architect Robert Duke was engaged to revise the building into a hospital. This included installing a domed roof over what had been the exercise yard for the horses. The dome was the largest dome structure in the world in 1881.
More recently the building has been taken over by the University of Derby who run Furthrt Education courses and use the 1534 square metre space for events.
