Battersea Power Station

Thank you for the comments on yesterday's poppies. It was a late night last night after I got back and posted my blip. My photography friend and I were discussing what we think is the most important aspect of landscape photography to make a great image, and I think it is the light. To me it can make or break an image. And yesterday the light was against me in my poppy images, during the morning it was too bright and harsh, and on my return visit last night it was too flat and not at the right angle and the sunset was disappointing after such a sunny day.

Today was very hot - I think it got to 31C although at one point in the car it showed 36C! I did some grocery shopping this morning, and just about fainted in shock at the fish counter at the price of tuna (£41.50 per kilogram!!) As a Waitrose card holder you get a 20% discount on fresh fish on a Friday so I reluctantly bought some as I am making tuna niçoise salads for supper - it's too hot to eat anything else.

I had an appointment this afternoon at Greys of Westminster, the Nikon-only photography store in London - they had a Nikon rep in their store displaying the latest pro mirrorless cameras including the hard to get Z9 (which has been declared the best mirrorless camera by all who review it). It was good to talk to him about the pros and cons of the various models and get to feel and use the Z9, and compare it to the other mirrorless models. Its a thing of beauty, it has the most advanced 3D tracking focus system, the focus point sticks to your subject like glue as it moves (so it's a game changer for sports and wildlife photographers). Anyway, its so expensive and therefore it's something to think long and hard about, and in any case there is a waiting list that is about 7 months long as there is no stock worldwide. 

Gavin drove me to London as we knew the trains and tubes would be insufferable in this heat. After we left the store we drove to see the new Nine Elms development around the Battersea Power Station. Its impressive, and is a wonderful new developed area in London offering modern flats and shops, cafes etc. Plus a new tube station. 

We were meant to be in Norfolk today with the boys for the Fathers Day weekend, but our plans got scuppered as all three boys managed to get tickets to a popular May Ball event in Cambridge tonight (nice that they will all be together tonight) - and so we were going to go tomorrow, but the weather there tomorrow is dire - raining all day with a drop in temperature of 10C from today which is not appealing when it is warm and summery weather at home.
