A day at Kew Gardens
So easy to get across almost the whole of London (Haringey to Kew) on the North London Line, with air conditioned carriages slipping quickly along a tree lined track.
Spent the day with another friend I hadn’t seen for 3 years, so we did a lot of catching up, sitting on shady benches, and attempted to see nearly everything (which couldn’t be done). We were brave and stoical and went into the hot humid glasshouses to see the amazing things within.
I hadn’t been for at least 35 years, but it seemed familiar, and more or less the same. Of course it’s a serious research place, not a pretty garden, so there are recent additions like research into smarter food production, and also growing better in a hotter drier climate.
The main is of the water lily house. As is the first extra. They are big enough for me to lie on fully stretched - though I don’t think it would end well. The second extra shows the view shortly after you come in, the beautiful shape that is the palm house, across the lake. Third is on of the herbaceous borders.
Such a fab day out.
