Peter Rabbit
The gardens outside the Dower House have over several years been overrun with rabbits who seem to live under the decking of the new build flats. There is no other suitable ground in which to burrow.
I have always maintained that, in the absence of rabbits at any time in the past in the Meadows, someone must have introduced the very first rabbit to our gardens about 10years ago , a baby one which spent a lot of time hiding behind the flower pots on our patio.
In the absence of parthenogenesis, another rabbit must have been introduced in the next year, because suddenly there were hundreds of rabbits running about the grounds and becoming a problem.
There was much discussion about culling but how to do it without being a danger to other livestock proved a stumbling block. However, and no one knows how, there are hardly any rabbits now at my end of the gardens. Ferrets have been a suggestion for decimating the population although someone who lives much further along the grounds tells me that there are still rabbits there.
This bold one in the blip is a rarity now, spending a considerable time washing behind its ears in front of my garden door unfazed by my taking its photo.
