Dunes

Today we drove up to Durness.  We parked at Balnakeil to walk up the beach and through the dunes to Faraid Head.  We had a picnic there, overlooking "The Bee", the control tower for the Cape Wrath range.

There were some really interesting sand formations in the dunes, but of course CyclopsJnr mostly enjoyed climbing up and running down, barely under control.  I did 7km.  CyclopsJnr must have done at least 1km more.

Afterwards we went to the Balnakeil Craft Village and bought some goodies (and CyclopsJnr had a hot chocolate), then went and had a look in the Smoo Cave (where we got rained on).

We'd been having so much fun it had got late, so we stopped for dinner in Lochinver on the way back (at Delilah's - delicious).  Just as we were finishing our meal, three deer walked past the window, and off along the high street, so we had to get some snaps of them!

We also saw deer on the hills on the drive back (about 15 of them), and lots of bunny rabbits with bobbing white tails as they fled on our approach.

We had mostly sunshine but dodged a few showers (and got caught in one at the Smoo Cave), and on the way back the mountains were spectacular in the low light with glowering clouds.

A lovely day out!
