Dangerous

The Oregon Coast water is cold, and undertows are common; there were two water rescues I know about recently, and almost every year, there is a death when people enter the water. The two kids in the water in this photo are in a dangerous place; if they were to fall, the riptide would likely pull them out to sea. Even a strong swimmer who doesn't know how to get out of a riptide cannot escape. Sometimes someone jumps in to help, but they end up dying too.

The beach is less crowded today, but there are still plenty of people who were able to extend their stay past the holiday.
