Hiding in the long grass
What a momentous day in British politics! Boris has finally resigned, but only after all the better members of his cabinet walked out, and we will be getting a new Prime Minister in the autumn. While I will always credit Boris with a highly successful Covid vaccination program, he will go down in history for some ‘less fine’ moments – the Dominic Cummings affair, partygate, the cost of living crisis, lack of focus and bumbling through major issues, and the final straw being the Chris Pincher affair – although I bet no one will remember his name in a future pub quiz one day! For Meriel who works in the civil service her department has imploded with her ministers resigning yesterday and then the head of her department Michael Gove being fired by Boris yesterday! I feel a new Netflix mini series coming on....
My day has also had its frustrations. When I said our gate was not working yesterday, I did not explain properly that it wasn’t the mechanism of our gate that was not working, but rather the software controlling the intercom at the gate. Last night I discovered that the TV’s were also not working, but that is part of the same problem - the joys of having a 'smart home' where everything is electronically controlled, when it goes wrong it needs a specialist to fix it. Luckily Rob who attended the problem was the man who installed it in the house when it was built, so he managed to work his way through the problems, upgrading the software and getting techie support from the software engineers of the system and after starting at 8am this morning he finally resolved it by 5pm. I had a hairdresser appointment today and left him to it.
We did have some good news today, Luke found out that he passed Stage 1 of the CFA exams he wrote in May. It only has a 38% pass rate world wide, and he passed in the top 90th percentile of all candidates which he is very chuffed about.
It is hot and sunny today, by the time I took Xena for a second walk at around 5.30pm it was still so hot. Hers she is hiding in the long grass with grass seeds all over her face. I have to check for ticks every day, with deer in these woods we get ticks every summer.
