Wild Bergamot...
... with Eastern calligrapher fly.
1. The bergamot is SO exciting because there's masses of it in the space where I tried to grow wildflowers with very little success last year. I spread some more seed last fall and again this spring and when a huge clump of something came up I left it thinking it looked like it might be something I might have actually planted. I'd just about given up when I noticed today that it is flowering! And it's wild bergamot! Woohoo!
2. The insect is a bonus. Eastern Calligrapher Fly. A new hoverfly name for me!
3. There is a stand of red bergamot across the way in an older flower bed area (full of weeds and milkweed now, among other things). See the first extra.
