Thank You For the Days ..

New Neighbours

A change of personnel in the field at the top of our hill. The Dartmoor pony and the two chestnut foals have been replaced by this trio. They look as if they might be related to the piebald cob family that were here earlier in the year.

They are still settling in,  I think, and wouldn't come to the wall for TM's handful of grass. They look as if they could do with a bit of TLC, a field full of clover should set them up nicely.

We had the cypress tree on the drying green felled yesterday. It was twice the height of the house and far too close to it. TM spent most of today lugging logs and splitting them. The wood store is full to overflowing .

The man brought a large stump grinder and reduced the remains to a heap of mixed soil, chips and chopped up foliage. There's a wonderful scent in the air, I hope it lasts for a while. The pile needs to settle a bit before we start carting it round to the vegetable garden to help fill up the beds there - the soil tends to creep down the hill.

Now we have to decide what to do with to make good the site. It would be nice if we could get it levelled and make a place to park Wally. I think we need to consult a landscaper, and we can't see a way of doing it that won't involve building a retaining wall, and that sounds expensive ...
