Day 2 the Danube

Phew what a day. 71 miles, hot, flat - well so I was told. But we had a 14%up and a 17% down on gravel! Despite that had a fab day. The scenery has changed and we left the hop and asparagus fields, to mainly sweetcorn and wheat. We stopped at a pizzeria for 11sies, struggling to find cafes en route that aren’t beer gardens!

We stopped at the Regensburg, a beautiful city of muted coloured buildings and the very historic St Peters Cathedral, with its stunning stained glass windows. The outside was stunning too. We stopped at the Walhalla monument with millions of steps - well probably averaging 70 on each flight. Coming down was a bit scary.

From here 30 miles to Straubing, the last 20 miles were hard, we were running out of water, tired, I had dreadful hot foot, but I stopped and asked an amazing lady for water. She obviously agreed and asked if we wanted any birthday cake! A fellow cyclist no less.

The refilled water bottles boosted us the last 6 miles, now in the very pretty city of Straubing.
