Day 5

Linz - Grein
We had a lovely evening in Linz, mooching in a few shops and finding food and beer. The hotel was on a very busy street next to a bar which had revellers till gone 1am!

We cycled the 15 or so miles to Mauthausen camp. An amazing place. So still. We used the app to explore and wonder at how people could be dragged away from their homes and treated so cruelly. It was not glorified but a very stark reminder of what had happened. Of a total of around 190,000 people imprisoned in the Mauthausen camp and its subcamps over seven years, at least 90,000 died. Very Emotional at times.

The rest of the ride was along the river and scenery, not quite as spectacular as yesterday but very pretty. Now in Grein
