All That Jazz

After a two year delay due to Covid, we finally got to see Chicago last night, some three years after booking the tickets! No cameras allowed during the performance, so I had to content myself with the pre-set. To be honest, there wasn’t any scenery anyway - the orchestra were centre stage and the cast sat at the sides when they weren’t performing. Of course, the whole point of Chicago is the classic Bob Fosse choreography allied to the Kander and Ebb music and lyrics. It was a great show and the cast was a bit more star studded than I seem to remember it being at the time of booking. Lee Mead as Billy Flynn and Sinitta as Mama Morton were in fine voice, though the stand out performer for me was Djalenga Scott, who played Velma Kelly. Not as well known outside West End theatre, but she had the moves AND the voice.
I managed to get up early this morning and do a 5K run before it got too warm and sunny. Then we packed the car and were back in Kendal in time for lunch. I should have been out a concert tonight, but Stu couldn’t make it. Not too sad about having an evening in - we’ve been out the last two nights and I’m out every night from tomorrow until next Wednesday! Instead, we’ve done a load of gardening, had a leisurely tea and are just going to chill in front of the telly for the rest of the night.
