Todays harvest!
This morning I went to the allotment early to do watering as it was forecast to be a warm day, and see what needed picking.
The haul was 2 courgettes, 2 cucumbers and lots of beans. The runner beans are very small compared to previous years due to lack of rain but the little green beans actually seem to have a better yield than usual so they obviously like the heat.
I think this year we will not have lots of surplus runners to give away. Both sorts of beans are delicious when cooked so fresh…much nicer than from the shops. The cucumbers although small are really tasty too but I don’t really notice much difference between home grown and shop bought courgettes!
I thought I would do the annual Butterly count while there and hoped to see several near our buddhlea bush. However in the fifteen minutes I only saw one cabbage white and four very small brown butterflies that were flying so fast I could not identify them. I will have another go another day.
Cycling through Bushy Park afterwards it is looking so dry and very different o this time last year. I got an email this morning from The Royal Parks asking people not to have picnics in certain areas where deer have apparently started to go and help themselves to peoples food! There are always people who go too near the deer but this is something new the deer going up to a group who are sitting having a picnic…quite scary. Also the deer are eating plastic bags etc that the food was in which is not good for their guts.
Having a relaxing afternoon watching some of the Commonwealth Games. I saw some of the Opening Ceremony but thought it was much too long!
