Day 7 - Rhine Falls, Trier -back blip

We sadly left Switzerland and headed to Schaffhausen. There, we got “up close and personal” with the magnificent Rhine Falls. You could reach out and touch that raging water (but we weren’t that foolish). From there, we had a lengthy drive to Trier. The Cathedral was ready to close for the day. We hurried in and had Mass in a side chapel. Then we were able to take a personal tour of the building. We saw some of the most beautiful interiors of all the churches we visited on the pilgrimage. The bas relief of the interior dome was breathtaking. The pipe organ detail was amazing. St. Peter's Cathedral is the oldest church in Germany, the original structure was built in 250 AD. The current cathedral’s construction began in 1235 and was completed in 1270. Adjacent, is the early-Gothic Church of Our Lady which was also deeply impressive. We simply were in love with the exterior art work throughout the town, both murals and statues, on so many of the buildings. Trier was founded in 16 BC by Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus. Dinner was in our hotel and we enjoyed tasty Riesling. The greenery covered wall was our view outside our room that evening - had to share it. Another wonderful day spent in Europe. Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe folks. “A waterfall cannot be silent, just as the wisdom! When they speak, the voice of power speaks!”
