Superkilen (Park Liv)
Day 5 in Denmark was all about parks.
I’ve been really keen to visit the Superkilen (Superwedge) park in Nørrebro https://dac.dk/en/knowledgebase/architecture/superkilen-2/ and today was the day!
This park was developed with public participation in one of Copenhagen’s most culturally diverse neighbourhoods and really seems to fulfil its brief as a community hub. We hung out for a couple of hours and saw a wide range of people - ages, ethnicities, cultures - using the space. Chatting, playing chess, exercising, having fun. Apart from the eye-catching outdoor space, there was a beautiful and welcoming multi-purpose building housing a library, café and sports hall. We loved it. I’ve added some Extras too.
On the way there we had a stroll through Assistens Cemetery, which is a bit like Highgate Cemetery in London, and is the resting place of many famous Danes, including Hans Christian Andersen. We also walked through Nørrebroparken. We’ve noticed that Danes take their parks very seriously, and that they’re all really well equipped with football pitches, volleyball courts, skate parks, pétanque areas, picnic areas, BBQ facilities, seating etc. And people make very good use of them. There’s always something going on. Lots of yoga, lots of exercise. And, of course, people ride bikes everywhere. The whole city is as bike-friendly as Amsterdam. The people are in great shape and, as a nation, Danes seem much fitter than we Brits do.
The food is great too! Lunch was at the Nørrebro branch of Grød, and our evening meal was a takeaway from Wok, the Thai restaurant across the road from our flat. All of it was superb!

In the excitement of the holiday I’d forgotten that this Blip marks 4 years’ worth of Blipping. It’s only taken me 11 years to get here! Huge thanks to everyone who’s supported me along the way. I love my global Blip family! Special thanks to my brother Rocknerd https://www.blipfoto.com/RockNerd for introducing me to Blipfoto, and to all at Blip Central who keep the whole thing going so beautifully! Xx
