Narvik
Many thanks to 1bluebell for supplying this great shot taken in Narvik in Norway.
Narvik was of strategic importance during World War II, as explained on Wikipedia, and - of course - as we know from entries in Lorna's Diary of the war on 9th April 1940 and 14th April 1940.
The photo in the blip is especially apt given that Lorna noted the distance of Narvik from any German port to counter the claim that the German invasion of Denmark and Norway in April 1940 was a reprisal. You can hear her indignation in Episode 5 of our podcast series of the Diary of the war.
This blipper-supplied location image is a kind contribution to our bid to showcase the places that Lorna wrote about in her journal from her home in Malvern between 1939 and 1941. There are many more places for us to 'collect' to complete the set. If you would like to join in this challenge - and we hope you do - please check the interactive map or the list and send your shot(s) to Hazel at h.hall@napier.ac.uk.
