Long Day

This White Ensign is on display inside St Just -in-Penwith and although the laminated information sheet adjacent tells us that the flag was presented by Captain Russell Grenfell RN he was a Lieutenant whilst serving aboard the Revenge.

In my day it was known as “Misappropriation Of Government Stores”.

The Revenge saw action with the Grand Fleet at Jutland in May 1916. During the engagement, she engaged the German battlecruisers damaging two of them before being forced to turn away to avoid torpedoes that damaged her squadron flagship and caused the squadron to lose contact with the rest of the fleet. Revenge emerged from the battle unscathed, but she saw no further action during the war.

There was a lot going on today but it’s not the subject for a Blip, long day though.
