A Trail With More than Fungi
I slept in since we went to bed very late last night. Hubby made more pancakes to go with the leftover sausage. We headed for a new set of trails and saw a few new fungi and other interesting discoveries. I included three: Eastern cauliflower mushroom, Red chanterelle and Thelephora terrestris. We also saw a tiny toad, some type of lizard and a dragonfly. Someone left a painted rock by one of the trail markers. I will let them know it will be hidden in our home town. Their FB page info was on the back. Mancil says the symbol comes from Harry Potter. I captured a couple wildflowers and the rest are just fun views in the forest. We saw four different types of fern, running cedar and hair cap moss but they would not fit in the collage. I was very glad to sit on the bench where hubby and I got our selfie in front of the lake. This trail had more hills than yesterday. We got over 10,000 steps and walked over three miles. With all my stops to take pictures and identify them with Seek (which kept getting hung up), we were in the forest three hours and it felt good to be there. We shared the trails with less than 20 other hikers/bikers. We could hear birds but I was unable to identify them except for a blue heron we saw fly across the lake (but couldn’t get a photo). Both of us were hungry for pizza so we showered off the sweat and grime and went to a highly rated Mom and Pop pizzeria. They actually served several types of Mediterranean dishes. We finally kicked back in our chairs at 6:20. Our campsite is under towering hickory trees. My goodness, the nuts are falling non-stop and sound a lot larger than they are when the hit the camper or our truck. There must be thousands that have fallen since we have been here. Otherwise, it was a great day to be outside. Hope you had pleasant weather with accompanying fun adventures. Thanks for the visit. Stay safe. “You can be in terrible shape, and if you take a three-hour walk through the forest and along the river, you’re simply not the same as when you started out.” – Jim Harrison
