Garden on the Beach
There was a strong cool onshore breeze this morning when A and I walked the Cley circular walk. The tide was in so we walked higher up the beach alongside the marshes. We found these yellow horned poppies in flower amongst other beach-dwelling plants including sea-campion which can just be seen in the background.
The extra is of some chicory that was growing along the path next to the marshes. This is a member of the daisy family and the roots can be ground and mixed with coffee. I remember my mother having a bottle of 'Camp Coffee' in the store cupboard which was a thick syrup made from chicory and coffee which she used to flavour cakes. It is still sold today but was originally produced in Glasgow by Patersons & Sons in 1876 .
