Detour

I set out for a long walk today, along the Pennine Way, just a few miles from home. I intended a detour from my usual route, to have a look at Gaddings Dam. It was a fine day and I (think I) know the area well. So I (thought that I) memorised the map well, to find my way.

I turned off the path as planned but soon found myself in ankle-testing tussocky marsh grass. There was a small lake ahead which I thought was my destination. Wrong! It was a much smaller lake, just above a place called Bottomley, with an even smaller pond in which there were these two odd, almost Aztec, structures, another shot of which is here.

Evidence of ancient human sacrifice near Todmorden?
