King Charles III

It still feels very strange to know we no longer have Queen Elizabeth II on the throne and now have a King looking over us. King Charles III has made a great start with a walk around outside Buckingham Palace, thanking people for coming and shaking hands and receiving a few kisses. I thought his speech was perfect very heartfelt and meaningful. It must have been hard to do and must have felt strange after being ‘prepared’ for so long. As he said to the Prime Minister , Liz Truss, it was a day he had dreaded but knew would come.
I found this page in an old Brownie Journal when I went to look at some achieved photo albums etc at Groam House Museum a few years ago. The leader was talking about the Coronation of King George VI. Queen Elizabeth’s father.
It reads :-
May 15th 1937
‘ Today we did not have a meeting because we did something far more exciting. All the brownies, and the Brown Owl, and the Tawny Owl and the Guide Lieutenant and best of all our former Brown Owl or rather Eagle Owl , Mrs Campbell went in cars to Dingwall to see the ‘Coronation’ at the Cinema.
After the cinema we went for a picnic to Loch Ussie and everybody ate as much as they could to say nothing of all the lemonade they drank.
It was a lovely day ad we all enjoyed ourselves very much .
On the actual Coronation day the Brownies paraded with Guides, Scouts and wolfcubs and attended the Coronation service in Cathedral Square. ‘
It’s now our turn to make history , we’ll be the ones who are asked ‘what was the Queen like ? where were you when she died? Did you see the Coronation ? Questions I have asked my parents and Grandparents in the past.
