Heavenly Hand
Dark grey skies at sunset tonight - which gave some weird eerie stormy light and No1 son and I took some great pics, but this was unrepeatable :0) the kids and I saw it on the way home. A giant hand in the sky...awesome!
Iv been trying to keep some rough notes on what we learn so I decided some days to put them under my blip. You don't have to read them, I just wanted to record them for myself, but you're welcome to :0)
...here's a sample from today, it was one of those great days where you mention one thing and it leads to a zillion others.
Firstly, my sweet girl got up really early today and cut roses from the garden, 2 for each person in the house, put them in little jars of water with I love you on post-its stuck to each, and then left them in different places around the house. Mine was beside my bed, her brothers was on his desk, etc - then she said, "you said we should be nice to each other so Im being nice" - awwww excuse me while I melt :0)
I read a short book on Balto that was lying on the table this morning
From there we went on to looking at google earth to find Alaska
Noticing its not connected to the US
Its almost joined to Russia
We found Nome and Anchorage
and we found pictures of Balto and Gunner
Balto is preserved at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
And his statue is in Central Park - we saw it...online
By then we had the globe out so No2 son asked where the Bermuda triangle was
So we found Miami, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico
We read about the losses in the triangle and the scientific/logical reasons for many of the disappearances
No2 son wanted to know if a submarine has ever been lost there, yes
We talked about sudden, severe storms, water spouts, strong currents, reefs
Defined turbulent, and phenomenom (because they asked)
The inaccuracies of a compass in that particular area, and that there is another like it in the Pacific (the dragon's triangle)
Found the Dragon's Triangle off Tokyo - aha! that's where Godzilla lives!! :0)
No2 & 3 son then spent about an hour exploring google earth...No2 asked where Mt. Everest was...find China and India and then feel for the line of mountains with your finger and you'll find it...he climbed Mt. Everest and asked, does it go through the clouds?
He found his way to our house and from our house to his friend's
Then to town using landmarks to find his route (I stopped watching after that)
No3 son picked up something random and said, "this stinks, why does this stink? What does reek mean?" ...another definition
There was some Minecraft of course
No3 son played Go Fish with the neighbour boy
and so went our day...Learning but not Schooling :0)
