What is it?

You are supposed to guess what this is for the Tiny Tuesday challenge.  It's also supposed to be in close-up, but that wouldn't make any difference if you've never seen one.

There are lots of them on the fennel in different stages of development, and I think several of you will be "spot on" with your answer.  They need to develop fast if they are going to find crevices in which to hibernate.
