Fluted Bird's Nest
One of my all-time favourite fungi is the Fluted Bird's Nest (Cyathus striatus). They are tiny and really hard to spot unless they are at this immature stage when the protective lid (or epiphragms) is white. Here are a mixture of immature fungi still covered in brown hairs, some where the hairs have fallen off revealing the white lid and a few where the lid has collapsed revealing the inside. I will return to this little colony in a few days and hope to take some more photographs.
PS I've added a back blip for 19th September, the day of the state funeral, here.
