Snaphappydays

When life gives you lemons….

The day started so well.. a leisurely breakfast, (the rest of the group having had to leave at 6am for flights), followed by a spot of retail therapy in Tarbert before heading off to Stornaway for our 2pm ferry crossing back to the mainland. We were enjoying a lunch overlooking a very sunny, calm harbour when a message arrived saying our ferry had been cancelled due to ‘adverse weather conditions’!! We rang the ferry company who said they can’t guarantee a crossing to Ullapool tomorrow either and we’d just have to ring and see! /eta that’s now not running/
So a quick change of plan and decided to seek an alternative….
We know there is a ferry from Tarbert to Uig on Skye but it is fully booked for Tuesday and the only way on is to turn up at 5am tomorrow morning to see if we can get on standby. Hotels in Stornoway were very limited, Tarbert are almost fully booked. After a very frustrating few minutes in the car we snapped up an (expensive) apartment in Tarbert and headed back here. We are now booked onto a ferry to Skye on Wednesday but with no accommodation in Tarbert tomorrow night currently available, we are going to try the 5am standby queue.

On a plus note we have Harris gin, the apartment is stunning, a glorious bath, a bedroom each, some goodies in the fridge and a carpet picnic for dinner.
No photos taken so you get this photo of one of the gorgeous art in the apartment, which I covet. Life could be worse…. Making lemonade :)
