Old Wild Men

Written nearly fifty years ago by the then twenty somethings Godley and Creme, this song speculated what it might be like still playing and performing well into old age. And, as Graham Gouldman succinctly put it last night, “now we know”!
This concert should have been on 8th October 2020, however Covid soon put paid to that. But two years and a couple of rescheduled dates later, we finally got to see 10cc in concert. Or at least, Graham Gouldman’s iteration of that band as the other three original members have long since departed, though we did get to see Kevin Godley in video format for one number. Of course, Rick Fenn on lead guitar and Paul Burgess on drums, have been performing alongside Graham for over forty years, so there is continuity. No one says Francis Rossi can’t perform as Status Quo, now he’s the only one left!
Anyway, none of that takes away from the fact that it was an excellent concert. All the classics, a few more obscure tracks and even a couple of new tunes. A great acapella version of “Donna” (celebrating its 50th anniversary this year!!) was one of the encores, followed by ten energetic minutes of “Rubber Bullets” to round off an excellent evening’s entertainment.
It was a long wait - but worth it!
