Another Sculpture...
... but this time I know a little bit about it. A friend saw my blip of the Gorilla earlier in the week and said there was another mysterious sculpture close by in Nether Whitacre. So this morning I set out to find it and here it is. It was carved by Graeme Mitcheson and was installed in February 2010. He spent some time talking through ideas and themes for the work with residents of the village. It was decided that there were 4 themes coming through that needed incorporating into the artwork in some way. They were things that the residents felt were important in the development of the village over the years. This was turned into a 4 sided sculpture with the themes gradually twisting together. The 4 themes are the railway, agriculture, the rivers and the flora and fauna of the village. The stone is Woodkirk Sandstone from a quarry near Leeds. If you would like to see the other sides of the sculpture you can find them HERE.
