Autumn in the City

Today we were in London for the annual service of rededication, remembrance, and thanksgiving,  and  the  installation of the new Master and Wardens of our Livery Company, which is always held at St Bride's church, close to Fleet Street. As usual, it was a wonderfully uplifting service, benefitting  from taking place in such an historic church, with  exquisite singing by the choir.( See my blip entry from last year St Bride's Church )
Afterwards there was a very convivial lunch at Apothecaries' Hall, with an autumnally themed menu. The delicious dessert comprised  a Cox's apple mousse, Red Lady apple sorbet , and a mini toffee apple.

There were rail strikes today but fortunately for us, South Western Railways were not affected so we were able to travel by train to Waterloo, and then walk into the City. I took this photo as we returned to Waterloo,  along the South Bank. I do love this avenue of London Plane trees.

This evening, in complete contrast, we attended  a local RSPB meeting  where the speaker  showed wonderful photos of  the wildlife of Botswana.

It has rained quite a lot today but somehow we avoided getting wet  by being indoors, on a bus, or on a train when the clouds opened.
