On our last country walk we saw hundreds of different shapes and sizes of pumpkins and gourds ready for autumn celebrations.  During our holiday we had seen a variety of different crops including vines and vast fruit orchards around the Bodensee area and little fields near Innsbruck growing strips of salads and vegetables presumably mainly for personal use.  However most of our walks were among Alpine pastures where cows grazed and we could hear the constant sound of cowbells at each of our residences. The cows have now been brought down from the high mountain pastures prior to spending the winter in barns where they would be reliant on hay. We passed rows of the traditional wooden racks for drying the hay before it is stored in sheds or barns for winter feed. The sign in the extra roughly translates as “The salad bowl for our cows starts here and is not a toilet for your dog.  Please use dog bags and the bin or dispose of them at home”  Around here some people allow their dogs to run among the local fields which are mostly arable and they enjoy leaping around when the grain has grown tall
