A Very Special Morning

We woke to thick fog, Bath wasn’t even visible!

A mishap yesterday had given Grace a puncture (5 actually) when hedge clippings left in the narrow country lanes, containing brambles, had caused havoc with her front wheel so today we took the car to school with Eda. I had originally intended walking whilst Grace took the bike but this meant we could leave the car whilst we joined the whole of Eda’s school as they walked to Woolley Church for their Harvest festival.

I had the privilege of taking Eda into school. We were greeted by the teachers and lovely piped music outside. I got to see inside her classroom and their outdoor class area.

She was told to put her wellies and coat on and when I saw the mums and dad waiting all had their walking boots or wellies on I realised I might be ill shod.
After about 15 minutes all the children came out and we proceeded down a steep hill through a field to the valley bottom. Not too muddy just wet grass. Normally a great view but at this time it was still shrouded in mist. It was one of those mornings when the cobwebs are highlighted by the dew and look magical. Eda called the little ones in the grass ‘Fairy beds’.

The walk then proceeded up the hill to the hamlet of Woolley (Eda is in Woolley house at school) the only hold up was three kissing gates that everyone had to negotiate and a stile at the end that was basically just a slab of stone we had to climb over, many little ones had to be lifted over.
The path is part of the ‘Bath Round’ walk.

We had a lovely service with Eda’s ‘ Apple class singing a song with actions. Oak class (Yr 4) did a song about potatoes whilst playing ukuleles and Yr 6 pupils read autumn poems they had written. There was a Harvest Samba song to start and finish which was sung very enthusiastically by the whole school and one about conkers in the middle. What a great and memorable event. The foods collected will go to a local food bank.

As predicted the mist had burned off by the time we came out and we were greeted by blue skies and sunshine again with just a hint of the mist remaining as seen in the blip.  Eda’s school is in the hamlet you can see ahead.

Grace had to be off fairly swiftly as she had dress rehearsal this afternoon and the first performance of the show tonight. As it was now such a lovely day I walked into Bath and had lunch and am just nicely back.

It was a very special morning, so glad I was here to share it.
