Autumn, Cragside

Ailie called and we went over to Cragside for a potter, climbing the paths up to the lakes, round them and up a track to the labyrinth. Given our track record with that, we side-stepped the entrance and had a wander on a few more paths before descending on a rocky, greasy path to the house. We were out 2.5 hours and only walked 4.5 miles. A lot of chat was going on. Her sister has just had a cancer op, her oldest friend is ill, her ex-husband ill, her daughter has marriage problems. I hope she can relax when she gets to Tasmania for her walking trip.

I’m on day 20 of the Scandinavia book. I have too many good photos so might have to make two volumes!

It’s inconceivable that Johnson has over 100 nominations for MP. And some MPs who wrote to tell Johnson to resign now endorse him. They think he’ll save their seats in the next election. What a self-serving bunch. Johnson has rarely been back to Westminster since then, having had several holidays when we’re paying his MP salary and he’s up for an inquiry into his partying during Covid. It can’t go on like this but what can we do.

One bit of happy news is my niece took her partner away for a surprise birthday treat and she got the surprise - a ring. I’m so happy for her as the father of her children left her after 25 years and it was a very difficult few years for her. It’s so nice to have something good happening amid the awful world situation.
