Not much time for Blip searching today as it was my turn to lead our village discussion group.
My subject was the state of British Universities. Although it is almost 30 years since I retired from the University of Manchester I had worked there for the previous 30 years and have continued to follow its fortunes. So I should be able to talk about our universities in general.

On the whole our top universities are second only to USA in terms of the world class quality of their research. Manchester has produced 25 Nobel Prize winners.

But there are lots of issues for discussion. For example why has the percentage of degrees with 1st. Class honours increased from 17% in 2012 to 36% in 2021 ?
And then there is defending freedom of speech, Decolonisation of the curriculum, Cancel Culture and Trigger Warnings, ensuring Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and the move to on-line as compared to face to face teaching.

So we had an excellent discussion.
