Hungrytown Road

Hungrytown are an American folk duo (folk with a touch of bluegrass to be precise) and up until a couple of years ago spent most of their year on the road performing throughout the US as well as Europe and NZ. Living in Vermont, they preferred to tour the southern states in the winter, but always favoured a few dates in the U.K. in the autumn.
Obviously, covid put paid to all that for a while, so they were delighted to be back on the road again this year. But why would they choose to play the Bryce Institute in Burneside I hear you ask? Well I did ask, and the answer was quite simple. They like the U.K. and always look for interesting places and venues to perform in. It’s then a case of approaching the venue and sorting out a deal.
Ken and Rebecca are a married couple who gave up office jobs to pursue a musical career over fifteen years ago and have not looked back since. Rebecca has a wonderful voice and Ken is a talented multi instrumentalist, as well as providing some sublime harmonies when required.
It was only a small audience, but a very appreciative one, and we were treated to an excellent evening of both self-penned and traditional songs. They discovered the actual Hungrytown Road whilst touring in the southern USA but found that there was no actual town (of any name!) at the end of it. All of which provided the inspiration for a song and a name for their duo.
We bought a CD and enjoyed a pleasant chat after they had finished. I would heartily recommend seeing them if you can - dates are regularly posted on their website - though that won’t be until next year if you’re in the U.K.
Definitely something different for our little theatre, and I hope we can attract other musical acts in the future, as it is a great stage to perform on - as I know better than most!
