A trip to the TIP – A 'ranty' BLIP

For the last couple of weeks my human has been looking for a new microwave. The one we've got has a lot of exposed rust underneath the plate etc, so we're pretty sure it's going to explode soon. All she uses a microwave for, is re-heating stuff, so she doesn't need anything fancy. She's sure the last one she bought (a few years ago) was less than £30 on offer at a supermarket. Mmmmmm....................... everything has gone up these days and the cheapest one she could find was at Argos for £55.

Soooooo.................. ordered it online so that we could pick it up from Argos at Cameron Toll this afternoon, take the old microwave to the tip and I could have a walk at Craigmillar Castle. Three birds killed with one stone so to speak. My human was feeling really pleased with herself that she'd managed to co-ordinate a shop, a trip to the tip and a dog walk all avoiding going via Morningside Road which has had the most horrendous queues all day due to roadworks and temp traffic lights.
Best laid plans and all that.................................................

Got to the tip and there was a notice on the gate (which tbh honest wasn't very prominent because the gate was open so one could only see it if one was looking to the left – see extras) which said, 'NO BOOKING, NO ENTRY'. Well by now we were driving into the tip. We didn't have an option to go anywhere else because we were in a one way system. To cut a very long story short..................... Guy on the gate was a right old 'jobsworth'. He said we couldn't dump our old microwave because we hadn't booked a slot to visit. He said there had been a booking system in place for two years. Obviously Ann knew that there was a booking system in place during lock down, but we're not in lock down anymore. And he said if we'd done some 'research' before visiting, this problem could have been avoided. He was a right old grump!!! Ann could see that there was only one car dropping off stuff and to get out of the one-way system she had to drive past 5 empty dropping off bays so she asked if she could just stop to throw her rusty microwave into the skip. The answer was a big fat NO!!!!

...............In retrospect, we should have just sat in our car at the 'gatehouse' (which would have stopped anyone else getting in) and asked 'jobsworthy' to book us in (which we doubt if he would have done) or gone onto our phone to make a booking. Unfortunately, my human only has good ideas after the event?!!!

Sooooooooooooooo..................... we drove through the one-way TIP system and parked just outside, so that I could have a run about in the grounds of Craigmillar Castle.

And then Ann had a 'light bulb' moment..................... she said, 'Trixie, I have a phone, I can book stuff on my phone, I will book us a TIP app for an hour's time.' So that is what she did.

I had an hour's run about time in the grounds of Craigmillar Castle and then we dumped our old microwave. However....................... by then it was obviously a really popular time to dump stuff so we had to wait????
