Waiting the next turn

Down at the railway this afternoon to meet with people from Plastic Free Tenterden, a newly formed community project designed to help reduce and recycle those hard to recycle plastics.

There’s much thought and activity about on the railway in response to the current crises. Energy management is obviously one crisis but so is the whole issue of waste management.

Like many businesses the economic circumstances pose a considerable risk to the railway so we’re having to account for every pound we spend at the same time as maximising every pound from our products and services. The KESR will mark its 50th anniversary since the first public train in 2024 and we want there to be a sustainable railway to lead us into the next 50 years.

Part of our approach is to work with local organisations and businesses on all manner of initiatives, one of which is Plastic Free Tenterden.

Plastic Free (https://plasticfree.org.uk/) Tenterden wants to hold a launch day next spring and I’ve persuaded the railway to host the event. Today was our first planning meeting and it seems like there are plenty of good ideas to work on.

Seeing as I was at Tenterden it would have been an oversight not to have blipped a railway photo. There’s a fine burnish on the stock in the platform from the low, late afternoon sun. Note the blue skies.
