The Fountain
This afternoon I had cause to cycle into town past Oram's Arbour, a pleasant open greenspace on the north-western edge of Winchester, which was an enclosed settlement back in the Iron Age. Beside it is the Littlehales Memorial Fountain, erected in 1880 by Lancelot Littlehales in memory of his mother Ann Littlehales. Sadly it no longer provides fresh water to man and beast, but it is an attractive feature, I think. Behind it you can see what used to be the Workhouse, which next became a Hospital for the Elderly, and then was converted into expensive apartments.
