Early Bird
Today is a day off work for me. Nothing exciting planned.
Had to reinstall the OS on one of my computers. Took the dog for a walk on the shore. Got the oil changed in the car. Went to a movie.
As you may recall, Potter's Marsh is just south of Anchorage, easily accessible.
The birds are starting to come in. We saw many gulls, some ducks, a brown whooping crane, and a single white swan. Some are just passing though on their way farther north and are only seen in spring. I am going have to study up on species native to the area.
This little guy, a Herring Gull, was the least fearful so I could get a shot in. Or maybe he was just sleepy. Most of the time he had his head tucked under his wing, trying to get some shuteye. I had to scuff my shoe in the gravel to get him to peak his head out.
Edit: I believe Northern has correctly identified this as a Common Gull or Mew Gull. I am not a bird person, sorry. I'm getting a bird book and I'll do my homework next time! Thanks Northern!
