Sunday Hippy Market and World Cup Final

Quiet morning, awake very early and then a fair bit of coffee needed to get us on the go. I hadn't slept very well, waking up during the night and eventually gave up and read for a couple of hours. Bb had done the same, but earlier.  I did an hour of Aptis marking. We had BBC World on in the background - a treat, as we don't get it in Barcelona. Bb started to watch the World Cup final match, then we headed over to Ipanema to the Sunday Hippy Market. We've never seen it so quiet - perhaps a combination of the football, lunchtime, dull day, the effects of the pandemic, and travelling not back to normal yet, but the week before Christmas?! Lunch on the terrace of Manoel y Joaquim in Ipanema - filet mignon aperitivo and their house special chips. We managed to watch the World Cup final game between the flat, the market, and then the last 20 mins or so in open air bar on the hippy market square. Even for a non-formal fan, it was nail-biting.  Well done Messi and Argentina. Wouldn't like to be in France tonight!  Wee wander round a few familiar streets and we commented that on first impressions, Ipanema seems to have suffered more visibly from the pandemic than Copacabana with more than a handful of places we know closed down. Or perhaps we're more forgiving with Copacabana.   Back to Copacabana and are now trying to stay awake until an ok time to go to sleep.

This musician was on a corner of the hippy market square. I doubt if she'd have much money by the end of today.
