A meal at Moran's

Just south of Clarinbridge is a renowned fish restaurant called Moran's Oyster Cottage.  We've been promising ourselves a meal there since we moved here.  So this morning, after we'd had our Sunday poached eggs, I rang and booked a table for this afternoon.

It had rained during the morning, but cleared up in the afternoon.  The restaurant is situated near the end of a dead end, on the bank of the Kilcolgan river just as it is opening into Galway Bay.  I took this photo from the roadside in front of the restaurant just before we went inside for our 3.30 booking.  It's a characterful old building.

I had never previously had oysters, but since Galway Bay is a noted oyster bed, today seemed a good day to try them.  We shared a small plate of oysters and a large bowl of mussels as our starters.  I found them overrated, and won't bother again.  I'd much rather have the mussels.

For main course, I had chilli prawns, which was really tasty.  W had a bowl of chowder; a reviewer on Google reckoned it was "the best chowder he'd ever had" - W enjoyed his bowl, but was not quite so fulsome in his praise.

We've spent a couple of hours this evening formulating our questions for the vendor, and sent them off to our solicitor for her input.
