Orkney - the rain arrives

I went along to see Davie.  He says his last option for chemo won’t work out.  Apparently the last concoction they are offering him has to be mixed in situ (the Aberdeen Infirmary) and then administered within two hours.  Logistics mean they also can’t fly the chemo to Orkney in time.  They offered to administer it to him in Aberdeen but Davie says it would have to be weekly and this would entail being hoisted into the ambulance at home.  Taken to the airport.  Hoisted into the aircraft.  In Aberdeen be hoisted into from the aircraft into an ambulance, then more hoistings in the Infirmary and on return leg.  Unfortunately he can feel nothing from the chest down and hasn’t walked now for a long, long time.  However, he was keen to underline he’s now a lot perkier as the chest infection he had in December has been driven off.  Just as I was leaving Dougal called him for an update to compare maladies.  Dougal has had two delicate brain operations and his speech is now quite compromised.  They are both very game.
I made an attempted walk around the policies, but my ‘injury’ meant I couldn’t walk far.  Disappointing.  However these things are insignificant after seeing Davie.  The Current Mrs Creel left for Kirkwall with instructions that I have to cook a meal for her and her sister.  I’d better get on with it then.
I tried the wireless during preparation but soon realised that the government’s dumbing down pincer movement de nos jours meant the off switch was soon reached for.  But, in a moment of unusual clarity, just before I turned off, and much to my amazement, it was heartening to hear that previously unreleased government classified papers have revealed the activities of Peter Glaze in the 60s.  It wasn’t all cabbages Crackerjack.

RIP  Andrew Nickolds
