Diary of an Edinburgher

Hot Magenta!

Today I went down to see Uncle A. As he is thinking of moving to a retirement home at some point, he is looking round at various developments. He knows the company he likes, and they have three new developments on the go in the city.

It was a bit like 'Location, Location, Location'... looking at three places and choosing the best one. Except there was nothing much to look at. The first one is progressing well, though no Show Home as yet, but it obviously had nice views from the third floor - and lifts, of course. The second site was only a big fenced off area with a big crane in it. The third site he's not sure of yet. So, actually, it was nothing like 'Home and Away'.

We got completely lost.

'Shall we ask directions?' said I.

'Oh, no need,' said Uncle A.

Cruising round for another half hour (I exaggerate slightly), using the developer's map, we were going round in circles.

I eventually stopped and asked a passing pedestrian. We were in completely the wrong area and had quite complicated instructions to get to our destination. He kept explaining to me, the driver, but I never listen to instructions after the first bit, so I hoped Uncle A was listening. The man declined my request of giving us directions from the back seat.

Anyway, a successful morning. With supermarket shopping, recycling recycled, and lunch for Uncle A thrown in. Well, not thrown, exactly, but the service could have been better. I was able to resist the supermarket fare. Easily. But not the Crunchie Bar Uncle A handed me. Honestly, my hand went out to take it before my mouth could say, 'No thanks, I'm trying to lose weight.'

But when Uncle A returned from paying for the petrol, I could see a big bag of Maltesers in his hand, and I had time to get my brain into gear to stop my hand shooting out to grab it.

I've been meaning to blip Uncle A's new car for ages, so I stopped on the way round the park, though Uncle A thought it was a bit too dusty for photos. He must have very good eyesight...

I give you - Hot Magenta.
