There were many different views of water on the walk from Pitlochry towards Killiecrankie through Faskally woods following the east side of the rivers Tummel and Garry beyond the Garry Bridge and then back on the other side of the rivers passing the Linn of Tummel and Cluny Power Station. Until 1953 only 1% of rural households in Scotland had electricity until there was a massive investment in hydroelectricity with the area around the Tummel being one of the largest. Water was diverted from rivers and fed by underground pipes into a series of power stations causing former rivers and waterfalls to carry much less volume. These rivers and the Linn of Tummel must have been very impressive before but are now a fraction of their former sizes. The fast flowing water beside the notice is presumably contributing to the need for extra power in the National Grid.
