Door 5. Accrington Market Hall.

The Feast Day of Saint Brigid. A patron saint of Ireland.. Born 451 AD.
I hope it will be a good February for everyone, with plenty of sunny days and reasonable weather.
It is cloudy and rainy here and 6c.
I have been out to find a copy of The People's Friend and the local Nisa had one, but I got saturated coming home. The wind chill is unmerciful this morning, and I was glad to be home and enjoying some Camomile tea.
The doors today are old and heavy. The brass could do with polishing up better. They lead into Accrington Market Hall. The late Queen Elizabeth visited the market several years ago and it attracted much excitement and flag waving, a marching Scottish band and a patient large crowd. The sad thing is that after the pandemic and the general state of poverty in the town, there are only a few market stalls open now. .Not that long ago, millions of pounds were invested in renovating the old Victorian building, and it does look smartly painted. Artists were encouraged to rent small shop spaces in the upper balcony area. These are mostly empty now. It will take a miracle to help the hall thrive again. Some Levelling Up funding is possibly going to make a difference if people return to shopping there. Many just go to Blackburn for the great choice of shops and better value.
There is a small wool and haberdashery outlet in the Market Hall, a very good greetings card stall, women's clothing, bags and hats, men's socks, a cosmetic and toiletries stall, a man who was serving hot drinks, and a pet food seller where we bought some coconut halves for the wild birds. It sounds like many stalls, but it used to be much fuller and busier. The outside stalls open on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, but there was just one green grocery stall open, selling broth mix and various fruit.
Well I hope you have a good day and keep warm.
Thanks for visiting my site.
