High rise apartment

Today has been a lovely fresh day with a bit of sunshine and not too much wind. We have seen tawny owls in these trees a few times so we thought we would put up a nest box* - quite heroic of L as he really doesn’t like heights. Sadly we found a greater spotted woodpecker dead under the tree - he had been our favourite visitor to the bird feeders. We couldn’t tell if he had been predated or just partly eaten post-mortem, but hoping it wasn’t bird flu, which we haven’t seen any evidence of up to now. The only positive was that we could see up close how stunning his plumage was - absolutely over-the-top gorgeous. I would have photographed him but it seemed a bit macabre! Thank you for gracing our garden little one.
