Knife Angels

We drove over to Gloucester this afternoon to check out the Knife Angel outside the cathedral.

The Knife Angel is a 27ft sculpture which aims to raise awareness of all aspects of violence, and it will be on display in Cathedral Green from Wednesday 1 February. Members of the public are warmly invited to come and see it, and to take part in the programme of events and activities that will accompany it.

Very impressive though for some reason I expected it to be bigger.

There were angels on the post box too (first extra).

We popped into the cathedral too and saw the 'Lights Out' installation (second extra).

Gloucestershire-based charity, The Music Works, has been working with young people from the local community to create powerful new audio content in response to The Knife Angel.  In collaboration with artists at Squidsoup, young people have taken part in a series of workshops to produce a small-scale, intimate light and sound installation. The work, called ‘Lights Out’, features the voices and sounds of local young people interested in social change, whose lives have been affected by the issues raised by the Knife Angel sculpture.

Mrsfb didn't like it and had to leave while I was waiting for a suitable combination of colours to photograph. She found the audio a bit uncomfortable.

In other news we had a letter from the council about the local elections coming up in May. Photo ID is required now in order to vote. I don't remember that legislation being passed. We'll be OK with passports and bus passes, but if you haven't got any suitable ID you have to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

Update: another extra added to give an idea of the size. I took this after we came out of the cathedral and wishing now I took some more close ups as the light was starting to get more golden. Oh well.
