Looking Up

We managed to get our gardener to come back today and restart the work which he paused back in December. He made a lot of progress today, the lavender hedge is now gone. The garden looks a lot bigger now. We are going to replace the hedge but will have to make sure it doesn't get so enormous again. He's suggesting Hidcote lavender this time. He's also made a few useful suggestions about a few changes we could consider to the original design.

I was going to post an image of our second batch of snowdrops, before they have to come out with the wisteria next week, but the light had gone and they looked pretty sad. Maybe I will wait for Flower Friday.

Instead I got a shot of the former Congregational Church in the market place, looking up for Wide Wednesday. It was built in the 1860s, and given a Grade II listing in 1987. It's now a private house, as is the former Red Lion pub you can see part of on the left.

I always wondered if the top of the church was formerly part of a missing roof, but apparently not. I picked up a couple of old Northleach photos from 1905 at camera club this week. I'm going to try to take photos of the same view as part of a club challenge. In one of the old photos you can see the facade looks exactly the same.
